Solar quotation checklist

Two quotations at the same price can describe very different systems. Use these 20 points with any company, including ours, so that you compare offers on equal terms.

The system

  1. System size in kW, and the yearly units it should produce, with the assumptions behind that figure.
  2. Panel make, model and wattage, and whether it is on the government's approved list (ALMM). Subsidy jobs need Indian-made cells (DCR).
  3. Inverter make, model and capacity, with its BIS certification.
  4. Mounting structure: material (hot-dip galvanised steel or aluminium), height above the roof and how it is anchored.
  5. DC and AC cable make and size, and how cables are routed and protected.
  6. Earthing (number of earth pits) and a lightning arrester.
  7. Protection boxes (ACDB and DCDB) with surge protection and breakers.

Approvals and timeline

  1. Who files the net-metering application, and who pays the electricity company's fees and meter cost.
  2. For the subsidy: the registered vendor's name, as it will appear on the PM Surya Ghar portal.
  3. A timeline from advance payment to commissioning, with the steps that depend on the electricity company.

Price and payment

  1. Total price with GST shown separately, and what the price includes.
  2. Exclusions in writing: civil work, extra structure height, cable beyond a stated length, meter charges.
  3. Payment in stages linked to delivery and commissioning, never the full amount in advance.

Warranties and service

  1. Panel product warranty and performance warranty, in years.
  2. Inverter warranty, and who replaces it if it fails.
  3. Workmanship warranty: how long, from whom, and the response time for a complaint.
  4. Monitoring app, and cleaning or maintenance terms after handover.

Handover

  1. Serial numbers of the panels and inverter, matching the quotation.
  2. Warranty cards, test readings (including earthing) and installation photographs.
  3. A single contact for faults and warranty claims after the installer leaves.
