Frequently asked questions about rooftop solar
Answers to the questions customers most often raise before installing rooftop solar. For anything not covered here, call or WhatsApp us on 99147 44011.
Cost and savings
How much does rooftop solar cost?
Cost depends on system size, the panel and inverter brands, the height of the mounting structure, the cable run to the meter and whether battery storage is included. For this reason a firm written price is provided after the site survey.
How much will I save?
Savings depend on your tariff, the units you consume and when you consume them, and the area and shading of your roof. The proposal presents savings and payback as a range and states every assumption. We do not guarantee a single figure.
Is solar worth it if I already get 300 free units in Punjab?
For a household that stays within the free limit throughout the year, the savings are limited, and we advise accordingly. Where summer air conditioning takes consumption above the limit, a correctly sized system with net metering can bring it back within the limit. The home page explains how this works.
Can I get a loan for solar?
Yes. Public sector banks offer a PM Surya Ghar loan for home systems, and many banks and NBFCs lend for commercial solar. Interest rate, documentation and approval are determined by the lender. We provide the quotation and technical documents required.
Subsidy and paperwork
Can I get the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?
Households that own the property, hold a domestic connection in the applicant's name and have not previously received a solar subsidy are generally eligible. Commercial connections are not covered. We currently undertake subsidy projects in Mohali, Zirakpur, Kharar and New Chandigarh, and Chandigarh and Panchkula are coming soon. See the subsidy amounts and steps.
What is net metering?
Your electricity department replaces your meter with one that counts in both directions. Units your panels send to the grid are subtracted from units you take from it, and you are billed for the difference. It is what makes solar pay even when nobody is home during the day.
What documents do you need from me?
Initially, only a recent electricity bill. The net-metering and subsidy applications also require Aadhaar, proof of property ownership and the bank account to which the subsidy is to be credited. We confirm the exact list for your case before any application is filed.
Equipment
Which brands do you install?
We are a multi-brand company. Panels, inverters and batteries are selected to suit the roof, the budget and the compliance requirements of each project, and we quote on a customer's preferred brand where requested. See the brands we can source.
Do I need a battery?
Only where power cuts are a significant concern. An on-grid system is cheaper and saves more, but it switches off when the grid goes down. A hybrid system with a battery keeps your essentials running, at a higher cost. Where an existing home inverter copes adequately, a solar battery may not be required. More on battery backup.
How long do solar panels last?
Most panels carry a performance warranty of 25 years or more. Their output falls slowly, by a small fraction each year, and they don't stop suddenly. The inverter is the part more likely to need repair or replacement during that time.
Installation and service
How long does installation take?
On a typical house the work on the roof takes a few days once the material arrives. The approvals, the net meter and the subsidy take longer, and that part runs on the department's timelines. Your proposal includes an expected timeline.
Will the installation damage my roof or cause leaks?
No. The structure stands on concrete footings on top of the roof slab, and any point where the roof surface is disturbed is sealed. The condition of the roof is recorded with the customer at the survey, before work begins.
Who do I call for service or a warranty claim?
Maya Green Power. We remain your point of contact after handover and manage warranty claims with the manufacturer. The handover documentation includes serial numbers, warranty cards, test readings and photographs.
Which areas do you cover?
Mohali (including Aerocity and IT City), Zirakpur, Kharar and New Chandigarh for all projects. In Chandigarh and Panchkula we undertake commercial rooftops, hybrid systems and larger homes that don't need the subsidy.
